ScanSnap iX1400 and iX1600 scanners: can handle 40 pages per minute and get them up and running in a minute

What iX1400 and iX1600 scanners have in common

Both models are designed for scanning only, cannot print or copy. Narrow specialization has a major advantage — the devices are very small and fit even on the edge of a table full of papers, channers and coffee mugs.

Scanners can rotate, straighten, crop, or compress documents. They also have excellent optical character recognition (OCR) — classic fonts like Arial or Times New Roman scan error-free up to 6 font sizes, saving you a lot of time on proofreading scans.

You can scan up to 40 pages in one minute, the automatic feeder can hold 50 sheets, and the device can handle multi-page documents with ease — and if it comes across glued sheets, it will alert you.

Both iX1400 and iX1600 can tell if you are scanning a receipt, business card or photo. Thanks to ScanSnap Home software, it can extract data from documents into CSV format, assigning a label or keyword to them when saving. It's so easy to find an electronic document wherever you store it.

The scanners are compatible with both Windows and macOS.

The lighter iX1400 is connected via USB and controlled with one button

Connect the iX1400 scanner to your computer or laptop using USB 3.2, avoiding the often complicated pairing via wi-fi.

  • At the same time, the lack of wi-fi may be the biggest disadvantage of the iX1400 for some users.

The device weighs 3.2 kg and is popular among customers mainly due to its simple adjustment. In practice, just press the big blue button and you scan (if you want to change the scanner settings, you can do it in the simplified Quick Menu on the connected computer).

More advanced iX1600 with cloud connectivity

The slightly heavier iX1600 (3.4 kg) model allows up to 5 user profiles to be set up. Therefore, if you have a smaller team in the office, each colleague can set up their own storage, for example

Scannedfor documents or a favorite feature.

  • Each user profile is displayed in a different color on the display. On the first good thanks to this, you can tell if you are scanning under your account or need to change your profile.

The main advantage of the iX1600 is connectivity. You don't need to have a computer at hand to scan. Wi-Fi is enough. You create an electronic document and the scanner sends it to, for example,

SharePoint, to a corporate DMS system, to email, or to the cloud.
